Arrels Aristan Montsant '16

From 90-year-old Garnacha vines planted in Montsant’s lichen-covered slate soils, this Priorat neighbor is opaque ruby with a fiery rim. The nose is wild and untamed—black raspberry, crushed rosemary, damp slate, and a touch of barnyard funk. The palate is savory and structured, with flavors of black cherry, bitter chocolate, and a lick of salty minerality that Decanter (95 pts) calls "the essence of Mediterranean terroir." Aged 18 months in 500L French oak foudres, it’s peaking now–2030. Pair with suquet de peix (Catalan fish stew) or chargrilled octopus.
